Re: Melon update-small melons

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

Ted,
Since you mentioned personal-sized melons, I thought I would tell you about a
new one (to me anyway) I'm trying. It's called Sprite and it is a white melon
that I think is supposed to be about a pound but it was described as "single
serving" size. It's from Pinetree Seeds. The description sounded delicious and
said something like "if I could only grow one melon, this would be it." I don't
have any ripe ones yet, but I'm anxious to try it. The vine has set several
melons and they are getting to be about full size (I think). Remind me later
and I'll tell you if it is as good as they say.

I also grew Savor. It's a good, small canteloupe, but mine were 2-3 serving
size. My first vines succumbed to powdery mildew last week but I have some more
that have several fruits on them now. (My biggest gardening mistake--I didn't
do the succession planting so everything is ripe at once.)

I didn't use any support on the Savors other than the trellis or tepee and
won't on Sprites. Don't know about large melons.
