I grew Sugar Baby watermelons very successfully back in the early 1990's and
don't recall mine having any yellow spot. But they definitely don't get
bigger than a good-size cantaloupe.
Lift one without severing the stem and give it a rap with your knuckles. If
you hear that nice, not-quite-solid sound, it's ripe.
Perfect icebox-size melons with few, small seeds and bright pink color and
good flavor. I can't see why people grow the big ones since they won't fit
into a normal refrigerator without being cut....
