Hi Valerie,
    I live in the Philippines and I have that same problem.  I read somwhere
that puttin vermicastings would do it.  I put a lot of vermicasts but the
ants did not go away.  I am amazed tho that they have stopped eating the
stems of my eggplants.  Hope this helps.
