We are planning a drip irrigation system to run off of rain water - we will 
use a 500 gallon tank (found this to be much cheaper then the $100 + rain 
barrels I could find and it holds much more water!) Of course it is bigger 
also but we have the space so I think it will work well. We will catch rain 
off the barn roof - if it works out well we might add some smaller barrels 
around the house and use that water for the gardens close to the house (this 
will take a couple of years I expect :)!!)
