Re: Natural ant killer

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

I live in the Philippines and have a had a terrible biting ant problem.
My mother in law said throwing salt where the colinize will kill them.
I doubted it would work, but the next day they were gone.

I recently found a natural product for killing fire ants (and other types
too, I think). It's called Citrex. It seems to be concentrated citrus oil,
and it's a little expensive, but it works. A 32 oz. bottle cost $18, and
you mix 8 oz. with a gallon of water and drench the mound. I live in
Houston; I don't know if it's available everywhere. I do know it also comes
in larger bottles (2 1/2 gal?) that are probably cheaper, but the local
garden center didn't stock them. A web search might turn something up.

The only bad point might be that I've read earthworms don't like orange
peels, so this stuff might drive them away. Small price to pay to avoid the
pain of fire ant bites and a fear of digging around in the garden.
