Any corn can be grown in sqft. at 1 per foot for 16 plants. I would
suggest you start there. To grow as much as I am trying, you
would have to choose a variety with small ears. Since corn is a
heavy feeder, you would also need good soil. Since you have never
grown it before I would repeat stick with one per sqft of any variety.
If it does well then next year you can try for more.
Where I am located, 200 miles nw new york city, corn is
supposed to be knee high by the fourth of july which means it
should be sown as soon after last frost as it is safe in your area.
