One recent Sunday afternoon, I came upon an unexpected treasure at the local garden center. A big, beautiful, thriving rosemary plant in a hanging container -- that was actually blooming! There is nothing prettier than the soft blue of a rosemary blossom. I'd never seen rosemary actually blooming before, it was the only one offered for sale -- wedged into the perennials aisle. But the price was $12.95, so I passed it by. But I couldn't stop thinking about it -- how unique it was. The four-inch-high rosemary plants I usually see in the "herb" section of my local nursery are usually around $3 apiece. Finally, a week later, after five very hectic workdays, I stopped by the garden center again. The blooming rosemary plant was still there. As I picked it up and headed for the cash register, another customer said in a disappointed tone, "Oh -- I was eyeing that." I mentioned that I'd seen it and waited a week before purchasing it. She smiled and said, "I guess it was waiting for you!" You can bet I'm banking on my $12.95 investment lasting a long time. The rosemary is planted in my SQFT garden, but I'll "winter" it indoors. Does rosemary "like" any other vegetables? And please send rosemary recipes! *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe, send to: listserv@umslvma.umsl.edu the body message: unsubscribe sqft See http://www.umsl.edu/~silvest/garden/sqft.html for archive, FAQ and more.
