Subj: Re: A Question for the Experts Date: 05/30/97 To: OGL@LSV.UKY.EDU I have a question for the experts........... While growing my veggies from seed under the lights in a very controlled environment, I have experienced a phenomena that is puzzling. My tomatoes (4 different types) and basil (2 different types), although of good size and with many leaves, have begun to turn white. It appears that the loss of green coloration begins at the middle of the leaf and spreads outward to the tips. The appearance is of a powder on the leaf surfaces. Eventually the leaves wither and die. I use lots of Sylvania Gro-lamps and have the plants at the recommended distance from the lamps. I have used a recommended dilution of Alaska fish emulsion as a fertilizer and do not overwater. Now the strange part. All of my peppers, squash, cucumbers, melons, etc. have not been effected and they are within inches of the affected plants. Any ideas? *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe, send to: listserv@umslvma.umsl.edu the body message: unsubscribe sqft See http://www.umsl.edu/~silvest/garden/sqft.html for archive, FAQ and more.
