Hello fellow gardeners,
I'm somewhat excited at my latest discovery
out in my raised-bed veggie garden, and thought I would share it
with you. First, let me give you a bit of history: last year I
tried growing carrots with mixed success. That is, I grew a couple
of varieties but had a rather modest harvest. I had heard from local
folks that carrots are sometimes not the easiest things to grow in
our soil, and that's why I planted them in the nice, friable
raised-bed garden, and I chose a smaller variety called Thumbelina.
Yesterday I went out to the garden to see "what's new", and spied
several orange bulbs protruding from the soil in my carrot patch.
The green tops have been looking very nice for the past month or so,
and when I started checking more closely I ended up finding a huge
bunch of carrots just ready for harvesting! Last night I munched on
fresh-picked Thumbelina carrots for snack, and there are LOTS more
getting ready outside! These things are so *cute*, and quite
delicious.
Thanks to whoever suggested this variety as a good candidate for
the unique gardening climate in Texas!
Joan
