Re: tiny black bugs

These sound like black aphids, the albatross of the pond lily and other
aquatic plants. Since pondkeepers are more than concerned with introducing
pesticides or anything that may be harmful to aquatic life, the recipe
below is considered safe.  The oil emulsifies with the soap, and helps it
adhere to the leaves..

Here's some organinc approaches:

First, "knock them off" with a spray of water.  Allow the foliage to dry
somewhat.

Mix up a batch of soap oil repellent:

        1 tablespoon dish detergent (I like Joy, as the citric in it seems to
help)
        1 cup of salad oil

Now add a gallon of water and spray away.

There are also available insecticidal soap: just check the label to see if
they are organic.

Hope this helps.  BTW, Clark mentioned this was great for the green guy
aphids too.
