Garlic

I just purchased the book Square Foot Gardening, and although it doesn't
cover garlic in detail, it does mention that garlic is a good pest deterer.

Anyway, I bought some garlic bulbs.  There are four to a pack.  My question
is this:

Do I plant the entire bulb in one spot, or do I break it up into cloves and
plant the individual cloves?  Any help you can give me is greatly
appreciated.
