In a message dated 97-06-15 10:47:18 EDT, you write:
<< Our cucumber plants are blooming and I need to know since I'm a first
year gardener if cucumber self pollinates or if you must do it by hand
like squash with male and female blooms. Can anyone help me? I posted
this a few days ago and got no response whatsoever! Also, our container
tomatoes don't seem to be setting fruit while the ones in the square foot
plots are doing wonderfully--is this some deficiency due to the
containers and if so, what should we add to help them out?

Stephanie: you can do the cukes like squash. I dont know about the
containers issue, how are they growing compared to the garden ones? IN
potting soil or the same soil from the garden? Different light, heat, etc,
maybe making them a little slower? How do they look? are they flowering and
dropping blossoms, or just not flowering? Hard to give you any suggestions
without this info., at least for me, but there may be others on the list that
can help with that part. Good luck, hope they do well for you
