Re: Composters

On the subject of composters, as Clark asked:

I have a black plastic one similar to the type sold by Gardener's Supply Co.
and Sears and a few other mail order sources. It was a freebie given to all
gardeners in our county willing to compost and attend a two-hour workshop on
the subject. I also have my trusty 3-ft. diameter hog wire rings that I've
used for centuries. Frankly, Clark, the el-cheapo wire works better than
the $85 plastic composter. It's easier to turn the compost. I just pull
off the wire and fork it over into another wire ring. The wire cost me $4
for two 3-ft. dia. circles, and I've used them for eons. The plastic box
looks good and has cute doors at the bottom of two sides for removing the
finished compost. But, you can't aerate or turn the material within without
a lot of hassle. And the composting materials don't get enough air and a
smell develops when temps climb above 85 degrees. This is just my opinion
and experience.
