I just wanted to say thanks to those who responded to my questions about my tomatoes. I'm still not sure whether or not I should do anything about the yellowing leaves on the bottom of the plants but I am happy (thrilled, actually) to report that I just ate my first ripe (albeit small) tomato this morning! It was just incredible-- and there are several others going ripe, so perhaps they'll be enough for a salad this weekend? This particular plant is called "Gardener's Delight". My first year growing it. And I certainly understand why it's named that. It has a delightful flavor, tart and sweet. And it's just the right size for snacking or a salad, and I've got tons of these little guys coming up! I am also anxious to see how the "Enchantment" tomatoes taste. This is my first year growing these as well, and they are really neat looking on the vine. Kinda look a bit like a paste tomato, only more "egg-shaped and sized". I hope they taste as good as they are prolific, as there are so many on the vines--just waiting to ripen! Really amazing! If they are as tasty as I've read, I'd definitely recommend them to anyone asking about what kind of saladette tomatoes they should try. I have several huge (probably about 5 to 6 inches in diameter) tomatoes (Brandywine and Pruden's Purple) that haven't ripened yet and everytime I go out to check them, my mouth practically waters in anticipation! I realize they might not be ready for a few more weeks, but I just can't imagine them getting any larger--I'll need to hold them up with pantyhose if they do!! THIS, my friends, is the true reason I love to garden. I enjoy the benefits of being close to nature, and eating the goodies of my labor, but it's the TOMATOES that really do it for me! You just can't beat a homegrown tomato or find better satisfaction in growing a plant, like there is with the tomato. Of course, that's just my humble opinion.... :) Gail Kremser Fenton, MO (Zone 6) Email: gailk@wupatki.wustl.edu *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe, send to: listserv@umslvma.umsl.edu the body message: unsubscribe sqft See http://www.umsl.edu/~silvest/garden/sqft.html for archive, FAQ and more.
