Dear list, Would anyone out there in listville know of any undesirable effects of having black plastic on the ground for several years. I wanted to expend my garden, but did not have the energy to tackle the weeds and unprepared rough ground so I just spread out some sheets of bp and let it sit there for 2 years. After this time the ground was soft and mellow and all the weeds and gras were no longer a problem and hardly in evidence. I simply nailed my raised beds together and placed them on the plastic. I cut the interior of the beds away with a knife and prepared this soil; by double digging etc... The plastic is still in the pathways as mulch and still holding up well. Will the extended use of this material in this way cause any adverse effects to the soil through the leaching of plastic components? Thanks to one and all, Dave- *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe, send to: listserv@umslvma.umsl.edu the body message: unsubscribe sqft See http://www.umsl.edu/~silvest/garden/sqft.html for archive, FAQ and more.
