Anyone try planting tomatoes in hay bales? This is our first year to
do it, and so far the results are good. If you get the bales in the
winter, and water them every day after first sprinkling about 3 cups of
fertilizer on them, then they will rot like compost. In the spring, just
scoop out 2 holes per bale, and plant your transplants. Last year I ate
some delicious tomatoes from a fellow that did just that, so we thought
we'd try it this year. Supposed to eliminate soil born diseases. So far
so good. I've had a few aphids, but got them under quick control with a
homemade oil soap. No cutworms, and all my 10 plants are producing
tomatoes. Comments anyone?
