Mulches...but what about those "BioMats"?

Heard lots about mulching seedlings, but what about those "BioMats" they 
sell now, where the seeds are impregnated into the peat mat?
The instructions for these things say "Never let the mat dry out..." 
Yeah, right! How do I accomplish this? Should I cover with plastic? 
Glass? A mulch? Comments please...
