This comes from "Your Organic Garden", by Jeff Cox. Combine 1
tablespoon of dishwashing liquid (not detergent) with 1 cup vegetable
oil. I use Palmolive dishwashing liquid, and store it in a clean jar,
labeled. From this I use 1 teaspoon per cup of water, and mix several
cups at once in a plastic sprayer. I keep this in my garden at all times
and when I am watering the tomatoes, I examine for aphids at the same
time. One quick spray and their gone. Also good for thrips and other
small pests. Jeff Cox says you can use up to 2 and a half teaspoons
mixture per cup of water, but when I used two teaspoons instead of one,
an oily residue remained on the leaves. In a couple of days, the leaves
turned yellow and sickly. But when I went back to one teaspoon per cup
of water, there was no residue at all, so I recommend sticking to this
exactly. This can be repeated as often as needed on a daily basis.
Generally speaking, I don't spray unless I see a bug.
