Keep piling until you can't reach!! I went to five feet, it settled to four and
gave great production. 'They' say flowering is not a good tubering indicator.
Try reaching into the pile of leaves near the stem. You can find and 'pick'
taters from the still growing plant! I stopped piling when the plants turned
yellow.
By the way, if you use compost, make sure it is cold/finished compost. If it is
still working the heat will kill your plants.

For how long does one hill them? Up until what height? I've been
hilling mine with straw and they just keep growing and growing.
By the way, when are the spuds ready to eat? After they flower? (the
vines, that is) When do I start poking around in the soil to see if
there's anything there to eat?
