Aluminum foil also acts as an excellent insulator when placed over a
compost layer. I do this with my artichokes. I am able to grow them
where they would not normally grow. Ugly prehistoric looking plants in
the first place, when mulched and insulated with foil they look like
they crash landed from outer space.
