Peppers will not be happy as long as night temperatures dip below 50
degrees. They probably prefer it a little higher too. Looking at your zone
and having spent most of my life on Long Island (zone 7, I believe), I'd
guess this might be the cause. I guess peppers and eggplant can be
permanently stunted if they experience too many cool nights. I'm hoping mine
were big enough at transplant to compensate for the 45-50 degree nights we
are having.
