Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Doreen:
Yes, I do have a few particularly successful gardening fetishes. I live in Zone 6.
1.) My most successful gardens overall were the ones that I planted using the Farmer's Almanac.
***2.) My most successful plantings of garlic have been those planted in the warm (for winter) nights of January as close to the full moon as possible. I am not kidding. The years I plant my garlic around midnight to 3:00 AM I have the very largest and best tasting garlic in my area.
3.) I like to start my gardening work around 5:00 AM to 5:30AM. It is cooler, the garden is moister, so the weeds are easier to pick. I am pooped out about the time the weather turns hot and muggy (about 10:00 - 10:30 AM), yet it is easier to leave the garden because I have accomplished a great amount of work.
4.) I water (using the irrigation trench method) in the evenings around dusk, as I examine and gloat over the fruits (HAHAHA) of my labor. I travel through the garden, moving the hose as needed. Sometimes I get out the pruners, pull a few weeds that I missed in the morning, pot plants, or whatever I see that needs to be done outside. By the time I am finished watering, I have again accomplished quite a bit of work and enjoyed watching my garden grow.
While these are not necessarily fetishes, they are fluky habits that help keep my garden growing well.
Thanks for asking,
Sheryl A. McCoy
