This is great. I know you are like the rest of us, and you probably don't have much time, yet it would be super if you could write down the plant types and barrier types. 

A simpler idea: You could sketch out a map of your garden to keep track of this faster. N could stand for plants with no barrier, T for toothpicks, P for popsicle sticks, etc. 

By the way, the toothpicks must be placed as close to the plant base stem as possible. Place them in the ground at a 45 degree angle as close to the stem as possible.
