Sounds like spittle bugs (Order: Homoptera - Family: Cercopidae).  Scads of
information about them on-line.  Try any of the search engines.  Greenish
green bugs (nymphs) are hiding inside spit from the sun and preying insects.
Adult stage is a tan, brown or black, 1/4-inch froghopper.  s (6 mm). They
feed during the summer and lay eggs in dry grass, weeds or stubble before
fall.  Water spray will knock bugs off plants.  Nice description at
