I've found that a great way to get into beds like this that are already
constructed, but a bit too large for me (also short arms!) is to place a
stepping stone or two towards the center, but an easy step in from the
side.  You lose that slight amount of space for growing, but it really
makes a difference if you can step into the bed to do weeding and
harvesting, and it keeps that stepping in one spot.
