Hi Fran,
We made 4x4 (inside measurements) raised beds out of cedar. As soon as we had the
first one almost assembled I realized that with my short arms, I would have a
tough time reaching to the middle, especially if I had to reach around anything
tall. So we changed ours to slightly less than 4x4 (outside measurements). I just
make the front 2 rows slightly smaller than 12". Haven't had a problem yet, but
haven't done a lot of harvesting yet either. That extra 4" or so really made a
difference to me. I didn't want to go all the way down to 3' because of the extra
space taken up by paths.
