Sharon-
I have no idea where in Ontario you live, but just south of the St.
Lawrence River I have robins that remove leaves from beans and rose
chafers, which are like Japanese beetles but a different color pattern,
that turn raspberry leaves, etc., into lace overnight. For any of the
above I guess row covers would help but I have been known to try rotenone
for the bugs. That, or course, is deadly for all bugs so keep it off
things in bloom and anything you are going to eat today. And while thinking
of cutworms - I wrap several layers of wax paper around the tender
transplants and make sure it is into the soil an inch or so. I do not
remember ever loosing a transplant to cutworms. That either means that I
have been terribly lucky or you are hoarding them in Ontario - with my
complements.
