Re: gourds ie. hanging squash

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

We used pvc pipe woven in and out of the top and sides of that orange
construction fencing you see a lot at road construction sites for our
trellis. The vines love it and yes, they can and will grow over the top
and back down. We also use cheap panyhose I picked up for $.99/pair at a
discount clothing store (similar to Odd Lots or Big Lots). They seem to
support the fruits well and you can make several "slings" from one pair of
hose. The fencing works very well so far as it is very pliable, making it
easy to work with, and also allows for many places to tie off the slings.

could use netting as you wouldn't place it on until after the fruit sets.
This is all speculation. Any info out there? I want to try this next year
as well. I am betting if you have a trellis in an open area, the vines
could be trained to go up and over the trellis making it to possible to
grow even 10ft vines in a square foot garden atmosphere) Also my spaghetti
squash I am growig now is partially sharing the trellis with the peas and
seem to be benificial to each other. Hope this helps. JessicaM
