I use one of those gold filters, I just retired one after 5 years and now I
use it to strain liquids for the garden (so chunks don't clog a spray bottle
or watering can rose). I only retired it because it said it was good for 3
years, it still seemed fine. I used to use those cotton filters but in my
expereince, they require vigilant and prompt cleaning and rinsing or they
get stained and make the coffee bitter.
