Re: Are earwigs bad?

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

Earwigs are considered beneficial insects in Europe whence they cometh.

Here they make holes in blossoms and can be a nuisance; much depends on the
weather and vagaries of the particular season.

Dahlias are especially a haven for earwigs...

Lee Valley has some cute little earwig traps with bait recipes for a few
bucks...or you could roll up some newpapers, crumple some under clay pots,
or use bamboo segments to attract and trap them....then run them thru yer
yard sale special bug blender, and add the protein rich chitin containing
product to your compost pile, turning yer earwigs from a nuisance into a
nutrient....

Frank---noting that those of you with a Bass-O-Matic (old Saturday Night
Live skit)....here's the place to use it....hehehehe...:-)
