Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
The consensus of the list last spring, when I asked about spacing, was one
plant per square foot. I spaced mine at one plant per two squares, and they
are thriving. I put them in the same bed as the tomatoes, but I placed them
to the south side of the towering giants--which are now at the 7-ft. level
and still growing. About Jerusalem artichokes--I don't have a clue. Never
grown them or even eaten them. As far as growing conditions--globe
artichokes like humusy Mel-type soil and some fertility. I didn't fertilize
mine--just put a tablespoon of 7-7-2 pelleted fish meal under each plant
when I set them in the ground. They like drier soil, too, so you don't have
to water religiously. In fact, I've never watered mine--they've subsisted
on rainfall. Hope this is of some help.
