Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Hello SqFt. gardeners.I will be using the sqft method for the
first time this year and have a few questions for the group. I live on the Outer
Banks of NC, the beach, and we have had a mild end to winter.
1. Does anyone else live near me or on the central coast that
has considered planting cool weather crops NOW as opposed to waiting for the
frost date to pass? It seems like it is safe since I will be
using raised beds and can can cover with plastic if frost is
predicted.
2. I want to use a system of four trench/trellises for
tomatos, cucumbers, melons and sugar snap peas. I have only a small space to do
them in. I thought of lining them up to point North-South to accomodate full sun
for all trellises. How far apart would I need to space them? I can do about 4
ft. between each one, is that enough space?
3. In the opinion of experienced gardeners, is it better to
blend bagged soil, hummus, vermiculite, ect. or use topsoil mixed with
composted manure, ect. in my raised beds. My soil is almost all sand so I
feel using raised beds is best.
Thank you for taking the time responding to my questions
and good gardening to all!
Bryan
