Jim, the reason we ferment tomato seeds is to kill the gel surrounding the
seeds. That gel is a germination inhibitor. Winter freezes and thaws
destroys the gel, so you have tomato volunteers. I'd strongly urge you to
buy Suzanne Ashworth's book, "Seed to Seed," that instructs how to (grow
and) save seeds for a very broad variety of vegetables. It's a reference
that can serve you a lifetime. Margaret L
