>How interesting. We just happened to have a light meter down in the basement
*I intend to post instructions on how yo use a 35mm manual camera to see
actual light levels. But a $5 light meter is available in many places where
moisture and pH meters are sold.
>and I went to see what my fluorescents were putting out, in the centers it
was up to 1400 fc, at the ends down to 400 fc.
*Go to where I show, and you can see just how much and where the light quanity
is for these.
>My bulbs are mostly 2 or 3years old, though I replaced 3 of the 8
*These should be done as pairs, or wahtever that one ballast runs.
*At 2 yrs, that's 15% a year. 10% is norm, so those are likely 2.5-3 year
bulbs. Write on them month/yr when you install them. Where it's seen, when
installed. Black permanent pen, like laundry, etc.
*They are 90% efficient where an incandescent is 25% about. You are at about
65%. Replace them. hard on ballast and waste electricity. Plants get less
benefit. Estimate the date, write on bulb. Use for temp use in a laundry
room if you must keep them.
>I also can't believe the engineer in the family didn't realize
the gardener in the family would appreciate this tool.
Tom
*Yeah... engineers are such jerks , huh. Always with blindres on.
Can only see straight ahead, and only with that right hat on and
matching coffee cup and pencil protector.
(Still get yer old slip-stick?) <slide rule, y'all! sheesh! LOL>

Group Description:
A Near OFF TOPIC Garden List, for however long a thread lasts. A long-term,
temporary use group... Almost a Chat Room. Garden Related, yet, not Strictly
Garden per se... If Timers, Spreadsheets, Databases, N,P,K.pH test kits, Green
Houses, Solar, Seedling Fans, Tech Stuff, & Shovels etc. are "Compost," &
called 'OT', Use This List! Disagreements welcomed, politeness absolute!
(Lotsa Links to be available, <I hope>.) You may hang around, or Sub and UnSub
whenever you need or feel. Perhaps read messages on-web to avoid email.
(This is how you 'vacation mode' gere.) However YOU want to work it to meet
with your fellows for a little while, and hash over something that's almost
garden related.
