Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Hi Bill,
Thanks for the spacing info, at one per square foot I won't be using up
that much garden space, if anything they might even grow taller in the
way that flowers for cutting do when you deliberately space them half as
close in order to force longer stems.
*I have seen since 8" & 12" for regular spacing. IF you skip and do every
other, something like pole beans etc, goes between.
I re-write, as I have been on gardentalk, (dunno if I invited you, too
mentally pooped,) but here what I choose and why. It has a dif.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
This year I got (from OSH) Lilly Miller $1.59,
Sweet Corn, Bodacious, "Sugar Enhanced" Yellow,
Ready 75 Days. Plant 1-2" deep, Space 2-3" (ha) Thin to 8-12"
(Plant this way to begin with, after they sprout,)
Rows 30-36" (forget it, I'm a home gardener) grows 7Ft. Bingo. Just
right.
This is fence height. More ears per stalk. Not too tall, but tall
enough for the pole beans (Sugar Snap Peas) I got and more ears per
SqFt.
(...If I amend well, and I add to each hole a tad extra well composted
manure or whatever. Low on fish heads lately.) This says plant second
set when first (of this 7 footer) is knee high. Fertilize when 12-18"
tall. (Band, not broadcast.)
Second reason I got this one. "Bred to much sweeter than traditional
sweet corn, it retains it's sweetness 3-5 days after picking.
AND UNLIKE "supersweet" varieties, Bodacious can be planted right next
to other sweet corns. [This usually reverts them to a starchy effect.]
I CAN, plant another type next to this (supposedly.) (Doubt I will.)
But last year I did a 6 pak, and then 6 seeds. I assume they crossed,
and were not as good as they should have been. (Starchy, less sweet.)
I bet 1 package is plenty. let's see. 28gm (1oz) 175 seeds. Not
pretty like popcorn seeds, all dried up. I will select good looking
ones, but test bad looking ones, to learn.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
>Ohh, today there's a pink bathtub out there, bet it would look cute with
zucchini in it, probably could space three in it, and if you add the
shower pipe and spigot, maybe you could grow some pole beans or morning
glories..........
Still Dreaming,
Trudi
*Hand a rod or trellis, hand panty hose and bras, use for cantalope, climing,
or Sugar baby watermelons, 8", 8-10 lbs.
