Darn, I should have remembered that one, it's a great idea. Despite
being six miles from the Atlantic fish heads are a bit hard to come by.
But I can get bags of frozen smelts for a good price. I could cut one in
half.......that should do the trick!
I went to Kmart yesterday and bought a couple of packages of Martha
Stewart Bamboo Stakes, also bought some of her green twine to tie the
cross pieces with. I'll be making a trellis fence with them, or maybe
another teepee thing to connect my two bean towers.
Of note, Presidents Day weekend I planted my Alaska peas and they
germinated about eight-ten days later, at that time I planted my Oregon
Snow Peas. Well the snow peas germinated in due time, and to my
amazement the snow peas are actually the same height as the earlier
planted Alaska peas! This is my first year growing peas, so I imagine
that there are variables in height and germination between the two
varieites......I merely thought that the Alaskas would be so much
farther ahead. At any rate, if we get a bit warmer the Alaskas will take
off fast, can't wait to see them start climbing my home-made string
trellis. It's strung from four poles not more thane four feet high. It's
a very woven ordeal, and if you have ever seen the Verazzano Narrows
Bridge in NYC, then you would have a very good idea as to what the
trellis looks like, LOL. Next time I'll get a kindergartener to weave
it, it should be infinitesimally better.
