Cathy--what you said about cool weather crops being shaded reminded me of
something I saw on a BHG TV show during the test garden segment. Cool
weather crop, like lettuce, was planted. Then, over the cool weather crop,
they bent a piece of wire mesh, like an arch over the whole crop. Looked to
be about a foot or two wide (???). They then planted cucumbers on each side
of the arch. As the cucs grow up and over the arch--they create shade as the
weather grows hotter, prolonging the lettuce growth. Kind of an interesting
variation on trellising. Real cool. Lorri Zone 5
