RE: Trellis construction

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

Thanks for all your input. Sounds like conduit would have plenty of
strength for a trellis, even with (hopefully) heavy fruits hanging from it.
On a side note, I was thinking of hunting down some fairly open tomato
netting as my "growing canvas". I believe there's some made of nylon(?)
that won't rot at all. The interesting part will be seeing how this netting
will work with my rabbit caging, which runs around the garden square, but
will be *inside* the legs of the trellis. Hmmm...

One of the reasons I included all the splices and elbows was that I *do*
intend to break down the structure every year. Shorter pieces make for
easier storage.

On a completely different tangent, has anyone had any luck keeping squirrels
away from the 'maters? I noticed they don't like my jalapenos and other hot
peppers that much (I usually see one or two fruits a year with two little
teeth marks in them; cases of "bite and run"). I've tried spraying NIMBY
around the garden, sprinkling cayenne on the tomato plants' leaves, on the
fruits themselves. Nothing seems to help. They just use my tomato cages as
a ladder to take their one or two bites out of several fruits. Are there
other repellents that have worked for anyone (nothing exotic like the fox
urine some catalogs are selling)?

Thanks,
Steve
