I usually put 1 seed per square inch when starting in flats. When starting
in the ground, it depends on the seed source. With seed suppliers like
Johnny's and Park where germination of their fresh seeds is always nearly
100 %, I sometimes put in 2 seeds if I have plenty but only 1 if my supply
is low. We have a local supplier of native vegetable seeds where
germination isn't as good so I will put in extra seeds to compensate. Also
add a few extra seeds if the seeds are not fresh.
