Hi, for your question about the bush-type tomatoes:
Yes you can grow these on string trellis they just
won't grow all the way up a full 5 foot trellis. This
is why most sqfters choose indeterminate or vining
tomatoes, to use all the space we have. If you have
a great tasting tomato that grows as a bush or
determinate plant I say go for it. Quite a few of the
best tasting heirloom tomatoes are determinate.
Good luck with your garden this year. Up here in
Michigan I'm ready to trade in warmer weather for
sandy soil.
