Question on garden layout

This is my second year of gardening and first using the square foot method.  I have a question on layout/positioning of various plants within my squares.  My garden will be 4 squares in a row East to West.  This spot gets full sun throughout the day.  I am planning to use the south side of my squares for vining crops.  The problem I am having is that I want to grow more vining plants than I can accomodate using only the south side.  Is there a problem with using both the north and south side of one square for a vining plant?  Is there something I need to be careful of when selecting the plants for the middle of the square (between the vining crops as shown below)?  It looks like I will have to do this for 2 of my 4 squares.  I am planning to put lettuce between them in one square but don't know if I should plant a shade tolerant in the other as well.  Would a bush bean do well in that area?
