Because Mel wrote his book 20 years ago!!!  Bonemeal is
lacking in nutrients because most of them have been leached out by
the pharmacuetical or food processors who created it.  Several
universities studies done in the last three years have proved
that.  They suggest using rock phosphate.  It's cheap and available at feed
stores.
