Hi....
I'm new to this list. My name is Ceil Wallace and I'm from Connecticut
(zone 5) and have been gardening for many years and then some. I'm also a
Master Gardener.
I've been into heirlooms for about five or six years now and plant around 30
varieties each season. I keep promising myself to narrow this number down
each year but it seems to grow, thanks to the SSE yearbook! I also overdo
peppers!
Last year, I decided to seriously grow some onions from seed, about six
varieties, and had pretty good luck with them. Am doing them again this
year and already have them germinated under lights along with leeks.
I love to grow sweet corn, but up here where I live now, the crows clean out
my crop so I don't bother with it (if anyone has any good advice here, I'd
really appreciate it!)
I shouldn't complain about the crows because I find them a rather comical
bird and even FEED them in the winter.
My husband plants several varieties of potatoes each year, our favorite
being the Shepody, a marvelous potato that gets blue ribbons at our
Harwinton Fair. He's intrigued at the idea of germinating potato seeds to
see what he gets...notice I said potatoe seeds, not seed potatoes. Nobody
we talk to seems to understand that the potato plants really do have seeds
on them.
Well, what I really wanted to say here is I also have heard of Brigade
tomatoes...I have the seeds here from T&M, but I've never planted them
before....what's the big deal on them...have I missed something?
