I am going to try to do as much as I can this year in the sqft method. I have Mel's book, and I've been "lurking" on the list. What I'd like to know is how do you find it best to arrange your various plants in the 1 ft. squares? If I'm going to plant several squares of lettuce, for example, is it best to put them side by side or to put something else in a square between the two squares of lettuce? This may seem really elementary, but I'd like to know what works best for the rest of you. I'm planning to plant some leaf lettuce, spinach, beets, carrots, and turnips in the next several days, so I'd like to get some opinions before I do.
