Hello! I am new to this list and glad to have found others who like this method of gardening! I have a couple of questions: 1) I just recently started a garden this year again after letting last year's go down the tubes due to neglect. I have one bed done (out of 4 plus some other space in the yard) and already the neighborhood cats have decided to make it their litterbox (must be the freshly turned soil?). How do you keep cats out of the beds? I have planted some lettuce, radishes, carrots and spinach as seeds and then a couple of tomatos and a bell pepper as plants and there is a staked side of the box for my sweet pea flowers now and later peas and beans, so it is not easy to just put something down over the top of the whole box. I went out this morning and half of the radish section was dug up (yesterday it was the lettuce). The cats are general neighbor cats that we do feed and watch out for so that probably encourages them too much, and I have never made an effort to send them away. Of course the digging happens at night and when I am not outside to watch. Any suggestions? 2) I am in Sacramento, Calif... anyone else on this list from my area? I would like to talk to you about things to plant and local sources, etc. as I have rather neglected my garden space the last few years and think I need some encouragement as well as wanting to talk with people who are into this in my area. 3) Does anyone on this list keep a garden journal? Either online or by hand? I would love to be pointed to URLS of any online journals as I have just started putting mine online and it seems so bare. Thanks and glad to be here!
