I then built a 4' x 4' wire cover to put over the bed until the plants filled in enough to discourage the cats. I used a plan that Mel published in Organic Gardening Magazine. It is very easy to make and turns out to be very portable. It involves nailing 4 1" x 2" x 4' pieces of wood together with a wire screen streched over the top. In my experience, the best way to keep cats out is to use a physical barrier. Or else have a dog in the area to discourage them from stopping by. But then you have to worry about the dog running through the garden :-) -Dave
