New SQFT'er

 Greetings List...

First let me say that I am very new at this idea of home gardening so I
apologize in advance for the elementary questions that are forthcoming.

My wife has recently stopped working in order to take care of our family
and consequently we are looking at all avenues that will save money.  We
both feel that home growing vegtable will help us to save.

So on to my questions:

1.  We are primarily interested in growing tomatoes, cucumbers, corn,
and beans.  Any suggestions on "types" of these vegtables?

2.  We will probably use the cinderblock method of above ground
gardening.  Can regular topsoil be used?  Also, is it better to locate
the garden where it gets morning sun or afternoon sun?
