Do not mulch around your lemon tree unless you WANT to feed it to the
insects. Bare sand for 1 to 3 feet is best. If you want to feed it
compost, trench it or dig some holes around the drip line and fill with
compost. This will give nutrients where thay are needed and improve the
drainage. Same for your apricot.
Ground cover might be all right around the tree.
