grass seed ????

gosh I hope that it is okay for me to post this here...

I need to do something that I have never done before...

I am wondering if any  of you have any experience or
advice for me regarding this subject...

In my front yard which once was plush green with grass...
but now 5 years later... and neighborhood children cutting across
my corner lot and the two huge trees in the front yard and
tree roots tree roots tree roots... I have only about 15% of the grass left....

would the best thing for me to do be to have truck loads of top soil
brought in and sprinkle down grass seed ??

it needs to be grass seed that grows in partial shade to full shade...
any recommendations on brand ?

I am in Ohio... when should I  do this ??

who fast will I have grass...

the affected area is about 75ft x 75ft -- how much dirt will I need ??

do I just have it dumped on the existing ground as it is now...
or must I first to something to the dirt and little bit of
grass that is there now ??

how can I be sure that the top soil I purchase by the truck load
is safe soil... and not full of chemicals that are hazardous ?

Is there a resource for free soil that I might check into ??

oh and -- would   I V Y  directly under the trees be better than grass...
and which would grow faster ??
