Re: grass seed ????

gosh I hope that it is okay for me to post this here...

I think so

I am wondering if any of you have any experience or
advice for me regarding this subject...

I'll try

In my front yard which once was plush green with grass...
but now 5 years later... and neighborhood children cutting across
my corner lot and the two huge trees in the front yard and
tree roots tree roots tree roots... I have only about 15% of the grass
left....

1. You need to over seed your lawn to rejuvinate it.

2. Try a play area mix available at most garden centers and hard ware stores

would the best thing for me to do be to have truck loads of top soil
brought in and sprinkle down grass seed ??

Possible, do you need to build up the soil level? Here in Illinois, it's
flat and I have to get a dump truck load of top soil about every 5 years.

it needs to be grass seed that grows in partial shade to full shade...
any recommendations on brand ?

A blend of creeping red fescue and Poa trivialis will help. Another
suggestion is a blend of perennial rye grass and tall fescue in a craft
(paper) bag kept in the refrigerator and over seed every 28 days.

I am in Ohio... when should I do this ??

Fall is the best time to plant grass but do it this weekend and keep over
seeding every 28 days through the spring and you should see improvement

who fast will I have grass...

Grass takes a long time to germinate, keeping it in the fridg keeping it cool
then sowing it makes it think it's spring and time and wake up and grow
quickly

the affected area is about 75ft x 75ft -- how much dirt will I need ??

Don't know, a dump truck load is about 10 tons, should be a good start. Get
"black top" or the most expensive top soil offered.

or must I first to something to the dirt and little bit of
grass that is there now ??

Get on a feeding program. Scotts 4 step program is a good one.

I hope this helps
